Created for Light
Reading:  Genesis 1:1-5; Psalm 27:1 - In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.......
The Lord is my light and my salvation—
    whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life—
of whom shall I be afraid?

Devotional: "Let there be light" were God's first creative words. Before vegetation, animals, or humanity, there was light. This wasn't arbitrary—everything that followed depended on it. Plants need photosynthesis. Animals need plants. We need both. Light isn't optional; it's foundational to life itself.

Spiritually, the same is true. We cannot grow, thrive, or truly live apart from the Light of the World. Just as our bodies suffer from lack of sunlight—affecting our circadian rhythms, mood, and health—our souls suffer in spiritual darkness. Depression, anxiety, emptiness, and confusion are often symptoms of light deprivation.

Einstein noted that darkness doesn't technically exist—it's merely the absence of light. Your struggles aren't more powerful than God's presence; they're simply spaces where His light hasn't yet been invited.

Where in your life have you been trying to grow in darkness? Invite Jesus, the source of all light, into that space today.
