Becoming the Light
Reading: Philippians 2:14-16 - Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain.
1 Peter 2:9 - But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
Devotional: The church exists to be light in darkness. Not a place of judgment for those stumbling in shadows, but a beacon declaring: "Welcome. You are invited. You are loved. We've been waiting for you." This is the heart of Jesus reflected through His body.
When we gather as believers, we gather around the Light of the World. In doing so, we absorb His radiance and carry it into our communities, workplaces, and homes. We become living reflections of His love, hope, safety, and forgiveness.
But this only happens when we stay connected to the source. A lamp unplugged produces no light. A mirror turned away reflects nothing. We must continually position ourselves before Jesus, allowing His light to fill us and shine through us.
Today, ask yourself: Am I reflecting the light of Jesus to those around me? Are my words, actions, and attitudes drawing people toward Him or pushing them further into darkness? Pray for one specific person in your life who needs to encounter the light of Christ—and ask God to shine through you into their darkness.
