The Shepherd Knows Your Name

Reading: John 10:1-5 - “Very truly I tell you Pharisees, anyone who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.”

Devotional: Jesus doesn't call His sheep as a collective mass—He calls each by name. In a world where we often feel like just another number, the Good Shepherd knows you intimately. He recognizes your unique voice, your struggles, your dreams. The shepherd in Jesus' day would spend countless hours with his flock, learning each sheep's personality and quirks. Similarly, God has invested eternity in knowing you. Today, pause and consider: Am I listening for His voice calling my name? The sheep didn't follow just any voice—they knew their shepherd's tone, cadence, and character. Spend time in His Word today, not to check off a religious obligation, but to become familiar with the voice that calls you beloved.
