A Small Thing 12-28-25

This powerful message invites us into the often-overlooked conclusion of Joseph's journey through the birth of Christ, revealing how small, intentional changes can transform everything in our spiritual lives. At the heart of Luke 2:39 lies a deceptively simple statement: Joseph and Mary 'had done everything the law commands' before they 'returned home.' What seems like a throwaway detail actually contains profound wisdom for navigating our faith journey. The sermon challenges us to examine whether we're truly addressing everything that needs our attention—those lingering issues we know are off, the tenth thing we're avoiding while managing nine others well. Drawing from passages like Philippians 2:4, Romans 12, and Galatians 6, we're reminded that following Jesus isn't about our feelings, thoughts, and opinions taking center stage, but about exchanging our ways for His ways. The Greek word for 'return' carries three powerful meanings: physically turning our bodies, turning our lives around, and turning to God. This triple meaning asks us a penetrating question: Is there somewhere, someone, or something we need to return to? The order matters immensely—we must first do everything we're supposed to do, then return in the right way. This isn't about religious performance but about the wise-hearted approach that knows 'the right time and the right way' to act.
